No doubt Apple Vision Pro could be the innovation of the decade, and the tech giant may have struck gold with this super futuristic ‘spatial computer’, however, there are some visible concerns. The one being talked about the most is Apple Vision Pro battery life.
Apple’s remarkable product line shares a common drawback – their below-par battery performance, compared to other consumer products of the same class. If you’ve ever watched Apple’s keynotes, instead of revealing the actual battery capacity, they tend to emphasize battery life in terms of hours.
So, does the Apple Vision Pro battery last long enough for you to truly enjoy the experience? Let’s discuss further and find out.
What Must You Know About Apple Vision Pro Battery Life?
So, Apple Vision Pro is available in the market and reviews are popping up. While many labeled it as too futuristic, all of them raised serious questions regarding its battery management and performance.
Apple has remained tight-lipped about the Vision Pro’s battery specifications since last year’s WWDC or at any point after that. Even in the official promos, there was nothing regarding the battery capacity or its performance.
Thankfully, as preorders opened, Apple disclosed more details about the battery, but still missing crucial information. Now when the product is out in public and tests conducted, one thing is clear – Apple Vision Pro battery life is bad!
Apple Vision Pro Battery Specifications
Apple Vision Pro comes with an external battery pack that connects via a USB-C cable. In order to keep the headset under the weight limit, Apple has opted for an external battery rather than built-in one. Here are some technical specifications:
- Type – lithium-based battery
- Capacity – 3166 MAh
- Weight – Approximately 325 grams
- Output – 13V 6A maximum
- Power – 35.9 Wh
- Connector – USB-C
How Long Is Apple Vision Pro Battery Life?
So, coming to the main question – how does the Apple Vision Pro battery fare in day-to-day usage? While Apple promises a 2-hour battery life on standard usage and 2.5 hours of video playback, the realistic battery performance might actually fall short of these claims, as we’ve seen with numerous Apple products.
Some reviewers claimed to be getting near-3-hour battery time while watching videos on Apple Vision Pro, but that’s not the only thing you will be doing with it. To assess the average battery performance (while using Safari, mail, photos, etc.), we have performed five different tests with a fully charged Apple Vision Pro. Each test included Safari browsing, photo viewing, email usage, and a minimum of 15 minutes of FaceTime.
On average, it was able to hold for 1 hour and 47 minutes during these tasks and lasted for 2 hours and 40 minutes during video playback.. Impressive? Certainly, the video playback time is definitely more than promised, but if you look at it from another perspective – Apple Vision Pro won’t last through the entire Godfather movie.
How Long Does It Take To Charge Apple Vision Pro Battery?
Given the short battery life, it’s crucial that it at least charges quickly. The Apple Vision Pro comes with a 30W charging brick and a USB-C to USB-C cable, similar to what you get with the MacBooks. When connected to the power outlet, you can use the headset for the entire day; otherwise, for just 2 hours.
On average, it takes around 90-100 minutes to completely charge the Vision Pro. In our charging test, it took 92 minutes for the battery to reach from 0 to 100%. Also, plugging it for 30 minutes will give you approximately 35% of the battery capacity. Could it be better with a fast charge? Definitely yes, but again, it’s an Apple product.
There is an LED indicator next to the USB-C port which gives you the current state of the battery.
1. When you connect the battery to the power
LED COLOR | BATTERY STATUS |
Green for a few seconds | The battery is fully charged |
Amber for a few seconds | Not fully charged but enough to use Vision Pro |
Amber pulsing slowly | The battery is too low to power up the headset |
2. When you disconnect the battery from the power source
LED COLOR | BATTERY STATUS |
Green for a few seconds | The battery level is 50% or higher |
Amber for a few seconds | The battery is charged between 5%-49% |
Amber pulsing slowly | The battery is too low to power up the headset |
What Is Apple Vision Pro Battery Price?
The good part, however, is that you can purchase an additional battery pack from Apple’s official website and double the battery life. You will have to spend $199 for that. This way, you can charge one battery while using the other. Also, a good solution for those wanting to use Vision Pro on the go.
Can You Hot-Swap the Apple Vision Pro Battery?
One important thing to keep in mind here is that the Apple Vision Pro headset itself doesn’t contain any built-in battery or power source, meaning your battery pack has to stay connected constantly. This brings us to a very important question – can you swap Apple Vision Pro batteries on the fly?
The answer, unfortunately, is no. Even if you purchase the additional battery pack, the hot-swapping is not possible. The moment you disconnect the USB-C cable connected to the battery; the headset will instantly go off. So, in that regard, it doesn’t make much sense to invest $200, unless you need the additional 2 hours of usage time.
FAQs

Yes, the Apple Vision Pro battery is available for sale on Apple’s official website for $199.

3. How to charge the Apple Vision Pro battery?
To charge your Apple Vision Pro battery, connect it to the power outlet using a USB-C cable & 30W+ adapter. The Amber light will turn green when it’s fully charged.
4. Can I charge the Apple Vision Pro battery with my iPhone charger?
No, you can’t use an iPhone charger to charge the Apple Vision Pro battery as you will need a power adapter higher than 30W.
Final Word
It’s quite evident that Apple may have missed the trick when it comes to Vision Pro’s battery performance. From a design perspective, it’s justified to offer an additional battery pack, why not increase its capacity and pack more performance, considering it will be carried away externally anyway? Given the exceptional promise of the product, a mere 2-hour battery life is a huge letdown for Apple. Sure, you can spend $200 for an extra battery pack, but is it justified for a device that costs a whopping $3499? I leave the judgment to you.
